In accordance with Article 109 of the National Health Insurance Act, foreigners who receive medical insurance equivalent to the National Health Insurance under foreign laws or insurance may apply for exclusion from health insurance. Applicants must complete the application form and submit it directly to the National Health Insurance Corporation.

1. Excluded from subscription

- Foreign laws: France, Japan, USA, UN

- Foreign insurance: Foreign private insurance (subscribe prior to long-term stay in Korea, pay premiums yourself)

- Labor contract: If the employer is paying or compensating for the worker's medical insurance or medical expenses

※ There are no restrictions on the amount or scope of guarantee, or the amount of guarantee is at least 1 billion won

2. When National Health Insurance is lost (regional subscribers): Date of application for exclusion from subscription

3. Documents to be submitted

- Common: Notification of disqualification (provided by NHIS), application for exclusion from enrollment (attached), and documents proving that you can receive medical insurance

※ All supporting documents include a Korean translation (no notarization required)

- Foreign insurance: Health insurance certificate (English) and Korean translation (including self-translation)

- Contract with employer: Labor contract that includes a medical insurance rate of 70% or higher, proof documents in case the employer directly pays medical expenses (official document, expense certificate, account book, etc.)

4. The period of exclusion from health insurance is up to one year, and if the period of exclusion has elapsed, you will be re-subscribed to the health insurance. Even if you lose your reasons for exclusion, such as the expiration of foreign insurance or the expiration of a user contract, you are automatically re-subscribed to the health insurance.
