Research Proposal Submission & Thesis Examination Procedures (GIT, 2023 Spring)




GIT Graduate students who are planning to defend their thesis (dissertation) this semester must follow the guidelines below and submit the required documents on time.


* Research Proposal Submission


- Eligibility: Students who passed the comprehensive exams and submitted an official English test score (or submitted the letter from the previous institute (when admitted) certifying the medium of instruction in English)
- Students on a leave of absence are not allowed to submit a research proposal.


- Submission Period: 17:00 (Fri) March 17th, 2023

* Preliminary Evaluation


- Eligibility: Students who have submitted the research proposal

1. 1st Draft Submission
(Thur) March 23rd ~ 5:00 PM (Fri) March 31st, 2023

(1) Please bring the "printed" copies of your preliminary manuscript to the GIT Office and get a confirmation stamp from the Officer. (Veritas C #120 at Songdo or Theology Hall #113 at Sinchon)

(2) Submit the "(1) stamped printed" copies of each manuscript to your thesis/dissertation readers. If one of your readers is living abroad, you can send him/her a soft copy.

(3) Send an email to 1) your thesis/dissertation examiners, 2) gitoffice@yonsei.ac.kr (GIT Office), and 3) yspaper@yonsei.ac.kr (Yonsei Library Thesis Team) with the following documents:

   a. Soft copies of the thesis manuscript (both in PDF or MS Word format)

   b. A copy of a digital receipt of "Turnitin"
   c. A copy of a similarity report of "Turnitin" which certifies
 lower than 10%

2. Preliminary Defense: 
(Mon) April 17th ~ (Fri) April 28th, 2023
- The thesis examiners will inform the specific date and time of the thesis examination.
- It is the candidate's responsibility to keep communicating with the thesis supervisor during the defense period.



* Final Evaluation

- Eligibility: Students who have passed the preliminary evaluation

1. 2nd Draft Submission: (Mon) May 22nd ~ 5:00 PM (Wed) May 31st, 2023

(1) Please bring the "printed" and "REVISED" copies of your preliminary manuscript to the GIT Office and get a confirmation stamp from the Officer. (Veritas C #120 at Songdo or Theology Hall #113 at Sinchon)

(2) Submit the "(1) stamped printed" copies of each manuscript to your thesis/dissertation readers. If one of your readers is living abroad, you can send him/her a soft copy.

(3) Send an email to 1) your thesis/dissertation examiners, 2) gitoffice@yonsei.ac.kr (GIT Office), and 3) yspaper@yonsei.ac.kr (Yonsei Library Thesis Team) with the following documents:

   a. Soft copies of the "REVISED" thesis manuscript (both in PDF or MS Word format)

   b. Revisions Schedule (form attached): Students MUST describe their detailed corrections work along with the examiners' feedback.

   c. A copy of an updated digital receipt of "Turnitin"
   d. A copy of an updated similarity report of "Turnitin" which certifies
 lower than 6%

★You MUST follow the specific thesis format designated by Yonsei University.


2. Final Defense: 
(Mon) June 12th ~ (Fri) June 23rd, 2023

※ The candidate will be informed by the thesis/dissertation supervisor of the specific date and time of the examination (defense). It is the candidate's responsibility to keep communicating with the thesis supervisor during the defense period.



* Final Thesis/Dissertation Submission (Official)

- Eligibility: Students who have passed all the thesis evaluations and are allowed to graduate

1. Online Submission: ~ (Fri) June 30th, 2023


2. Booklet Submission: ~ (Fri) July 7th, 2023

- You must keep the deadlines to submit the official work otherwise your graduation will be revoked or postponed even though you passed the evaluations. All examination processes will be conducted only for candidates who submit a dissertation manuscript. Please note that students MUST KEEP all the guidelines and schedules designated by the school to complete their degrees. Should you have any questions, please contact to GIT Office.


* In case of Changing the Thesis/Dissertation Title

(IMPORTANT) If you change the thesis title during the defense evaluations, it must be reported to the GIT Office to revise your submission records accordingly. It is the student's responsibility to update his/her personal information (e.g. English name, contact details) on the Portal to receive the official degree certificate without any typos and wrong information.
