Research Proposal Submission & Thesis Examination Procedures (GIT, 2021 Fall)
GIT Graduate students who are planning to defend their thesis(dissertation) this semester must follow the guidelines below and submit the required documents in a timely manner.
*** The defense meetings will be held via "Zoom" due to the prevention instructions against the global pandemic of the Covid-19. We appreciate your kind understanding.
Research Proposal Submission - Eligibility: Students who passed the comprehensive exams and submitted an official English test score (or submitted the letter from the previous institute (when admitted) certifying the medium of instruction in English)
- Students on a leave of absence are not allowed to submit a research proposal.
- Submission Period: 17:00 (Fri) September 24th, 2021

Preliminary Evaluation - Eligibility: Students who have submitted the research proposal
1. 1st Draft Submission: ~ 5:00 PM (Wed) October 6th, 2021
- How to Submit: send an email to: 1) your supervisor, 2) GIT Director(hyunskim@yonsei.ac.kr), 3) GIT Office(gitoffice@yonsei.ac.kr), and 4) Yonsei Library Thesis Team (yspaper@yonsei.ac.kr) with the following documents attached:
(1) Declaration of Ethical Conduct in Research (연구윤리서약서): [Click Here to Download]
(2) Copy of preliminary thesis manuscript (both in PDF or MS Word format)
* You MUST follow the specific thesis format [Click Here to Download] designated by Yonsei University.
(3) Copy of a digital receipt of "Turnitin" (plagiarism checker)
(4) Full copy of similarity report in "Turnitin" which certifies lower than 10%

* Inquiries for using Turnitin: please contact GIT Office TA (gitoffice2015@gmail.com, on service every Monday & Friday)
- In case of being asked by your thesis readers(s) to submit "a hard copy", you need to prepare the printed copy for them before the preliminary defense.
2. Preliminary Defense (online): (Mon) October 11th ~ (Fri) 29th, 2021
- The thesis examiners will inform the specific date and time of the online thesis examination via zoom.
- It is the candidate's responsibility to keep communicating with the thesis supervisor during the defense period.
Final Evaluation - Eligibility: Students who have passed the preliminary evaluation1. 2nd Draft Submission: ~ 5:00 PM (Wed) November 24th, 2021- How to Submit: send an email to: 1) your supervisor & ALL examiners, 2) GIT Director(hyunskim@yonsei.ac.kr), 3) GIT Office(gitoffice@yonsei.ac.kr), and 4) Yonsei Library Thesis Team (yspaper@yonsei.ac.kr) - Things to be submitted (MANDATORY):
(1) Copy of "REVISED" thesis manuscript (both in PDF or MS Word format) in accordance with Yonsei University's thesis formate [Click Here to Download]
(2) Copy of a digital receipt of "Turnitin" (plagiarism checker)
(3) Full copy of similarity report in "Turnitin" UP-TO-DATE which certifies lower than 6%

(4) Revisions Schedule (Form attached): Students MUST describe their detailed corrections work according to the examiners' feedback so far.
- In case of being asked by your thesis readers(s) to submit "a hard copy", you need to prepare the printed copy for them before the preliminary defense.
2. Final Defense (online): (Wed) December 1st ~ (Fri) 17th, 2021
- The thesis examiners will inform the specific date and time of the online thesis examination via zoom.
- It is the candidate's responsibility to keep communicating with the thesis supervisor during the defense period.
Final Thesis Submission (Official) - Eligibility: Students who have passed all the thesis evaluation and are allowed to graduate1. Online Submission (expected): (Fri) December 24th ~ (Thur) 30th, 2021
2. Booklet Submission (expected): (Fri) December 31st, 2021 ~ (Fri) January 7th, 2022
- Detailed guidance and notices will be informed to the students who passed the final evaluation. You must keep the deadline to submit the official thesis otherwise your graduation will be revoked or postponed even though you passed the evaluations.(IMPORTANT) If you change the title of your thesis in the middle of defense evaluation, it must be reported to the GIT Office so as to revise your submission record accordingly. It is the student's responsibility to make his/her personal information (e.g. English name, contact details) on the Portal in order to receive the official degree certificate without a typo and any further information in a timely manner.
All examination process will be conducted only for candidates who submit a dissertation manuscript. Please note that students MUST KEEP all the guidelines and schedules designated by the school in order to complete their degrees. Should you have any questions, please contact to GIT Office.
